Description: In 1884, Reservoir Square was renamed Bryant Park, to honor poet and editor William Cullen Bryant. Bryant (1794-1878) also was a civic reformer. Declared a public space in 1686, Bryant Park has served as an escape route for George Washington's army and as a training ground for Civil War soldiers.
